Wisconsin 2019
Welcome to this year’s collection of audio field recordings from the 2019 Wisconsin Annual Rainbow Gathering, which was held in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Iron River, WI. Special thanks to the especially welcoming corridor of communities – Ashland, Duluth, and Iron River.
This was the 20 year anniversary that I have made audio field recordings at rainbow gatherings around the world. It continues to be one of my favorite ongoing projects. I only wish I had started sooner when I first started attending back in the early 1990s. This year was no exception in the distinct and often magical aural nuggets one may encounter in the woods.
To assist you with your listening adventure(s), I have organized this year’s recordings by camp. Scroll away to find 193 songs, stories, poems, natural ambiance, and what have you. In addition to recording at Granola Funk Theater, Kickapoo/Story Glory, Instant Soup, and general on-site field ambiance, I recorded a bunch of intriguing north-woods sounds while doing the verb (those in the know *know* what I am referring to). Thanks to everyone who has participated in this ever-growing archive.
A haiku, written during seed camp:
Wisconsin has lakes
Sitting in ripple repose
A loons wail confirms
